Motorcycle Mechanics Institute Expands Supercross Intern Program

PHOENIX  - The 2011 Supercross season will showcase Motorcycle Mechanics Institute’s (MMI) expanded Supercross intern program. By partnering with the BTOSports.com/BBMX race team, BBMX joins Wonder Warthog Racing and The Dirt Lab SX Team as the third team to work with MMI’s intern program.

Beginning Jan. 8, the intern program gives MMI alumni the opportunity to spend a race weekend with a professional SX team to see firsthand the inner workings of a race team.  The interns will partner with the teams’ technicians and get a chance to work on BBMX team riders Jason Thomas and Michael Byrne’s race bikes.

“It has been great working with a race team to help bridge the gap between technical training and race world experience,” said Terry Emig, director of motorsports and event marketing for MMI.  “We have been fortunate to have worked with teams that want to give back to the race community through our intern program and we are grateful for all the amazing partnerships we have built.”

BBMX will also host VIP experiences for future MMI students at select races, and the BBMX pit area will be the place to be to check out MMI’s Supercross sweepstake bike: a 2011 CFR 450R customized by the King of Supercross, Jeremy McGrath.

“The entire BTOSports.com / BBMX team is excited to partner with MMI this year.  We are looking forward to working with the different MMI interns each race weekend,” said Forrest Butler team manager and owner for Butler Brothers Mx.  “The end goal of the intern program is to open doors for MMI students to become full-time race technicians, and we can’t wait to give these kids a chance to make that happen.”
