ORLANDO — Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI), a provider of technical education training for motorcycle technicians, will expand the 12-week HonTech elective training course offered at its Orlando campus to a 24-week “HonTech 24” elective training course. HonTech 24, which initially began on Feb. 5, 2007, in Orlando, Florida, will provide MMI students with an additional 12-week, self-paced course to complete all of Honda’s required lab and classroom work to be fully registered upon graduation. As part of the expanded elective offering, Honda provided MMI Orlando with 47 motorcycles and ATVs for training purposes, as well as Honda dealer training curriculum for the second half of the course.
“Currently, MMI is the only post-secondary technical school to offer full Honda registration,” said Bill Schuette, national director of Business Alliances for Motorcycle Mechanics Institute. “Before, technicians could only get registered through Honda’s dealer training courses. With the new HonTech 24 training program, our graduates will become more desirable candidates for Honda’s workforce.”
MMI students can enroll in the HonTech 24 elective to train on Honda motorcycles, personal watercraft, ATVs and more. Through this elective, MMI students can train on Service Systems Techniques, Routine Maintenance, Advanced Fuel Induction, Advanced ATV Service, Engine Service Electrical Systems and Advanced Chassis Service. The HonTech 24 elective program is staffed by qualified MMI instructors who are also registered Honda instructors. In addition, MMI students will have access to all of Honda’s online training resources.
A primary objective of aligning ourselves with MMI is to create a path for ambitious motorcycle technicians to step out of school into the Honda dealer world,” said Ed Abdo, assistant manager of Service Education for Honda. “We know that after-sales service is becoming increasingly important to both our Honda dealers and customers. As a result, our dealers are in need of technicians prepared to bring excellent expertise and service to the Honda customer.” MMI’s Phoenix campus plans to add the HonTech 24 elective course to its curriculum by the fourth quarter of 2007.
