NASCAR Technical Institute Celebrates “Instructor of the Year” for Teacher Appreciation Month
Jeff Shimko recognized for student success rates, campus contributions

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 26, 2023) – NASCAR Technical Institute, a leading workforce solutions provider of transportation and skilled trades education programs, is celebrating Teacher Appreciation Month by giving Jeff Shimko the honor of being named “Instructor of the Year” for 2023. Shimko has taught automotive courses at NASCAR Technical Institute for nearly the past eight years, and said he is proud to be recognized by his colleagues, all of whom bring decades of industry experience and expertise to their classrooms.

Consideration for “Instructor of the Year” includes results of the Education Satisfaction Index and Course Completion Rates. The instructor’s overall contribution to the campus, through peer mentoring and departmental support, is also considered in the selection process.

“We want to congratulate Jeff for being selected as our 2023 ‘Instructor of the Year,’” said Robert Kessler, Campus President at NASCAR Technical Institute. “He continues to exemplify the standards we want our students to take with them to the workplace after graduation. The positive influence he has on our students and staff does not go unnoticed and we’re thrilled to honor them during Teacher Appreciation Month.”

Shimko joined UTI as an automotive instructor in 2016, and currently teaching core automotive courses that address scientific principles and electrical components.

“I’m honored to be named “Instructor of the Year,” but want to take this opportunity to recognize the hard work and dedication put in by all of my colleagues,” said Shimko. “The majority of us came to UTI after many years in the industry, with the goal of passing our knowledge and expertise on to our students. We work to educate, motivate and inspire them every day in order to set them up for a rewarding, lifelong career when they graduate.”

The “Instructor of the Year” winner at all 16 UTI and MIAT campuses nationwide was announced at their respective campus on May 5. UTI industry partner Snap-On is also helping to recognize them by sponsoring a feature wall at each campus that includes a photo of the “Instructor of the Year.”
