Also taking part in the event was Universal Technical Institute, a private and for-profit trade school with campuses spread all over the United States. The closest UTI campus to Emporia is the NASCAR Technical Institute, located in Mooresville, North Carolina, just outside of Charlotte.

Universal Technical Institute and Volvo Car USA are offering a new opportunity for UTI students on the East Coast. The Volvo TEKNIKER Apprentice Program, a 12-week, manufacturer-paid apprentice program, is expanding, and is now offered at Volvo's training facility in Ridgeville, S.C., north of Charleston, in addition to the current location at UTI's Avondale, Ariz. campus. These are the only two locations in the country offering the program.

Bloomfield, NJ – Universal Technical Institute (UTI) in Bloomfield will open the doors to its 108,000 square foot campus on Wednesday, October 12, to prospective students, parents, and local employers to showcase its technical training programs designed to help prepare graduates for in-demand careers.

In addition to rolling out the red carpet, shops can win over students with a tuition reimbursement incentive plan (TRIP) said Robert Kessler, regional vice president of operations at Universal Technical Institute and president of UTI’s campus in Exton, Pennsylvania.

Kimberly Fanning, national program manager for Universal Technical Institute, agrees. “It’s critical that students, parents, and educational influencers like high school counselors are aware of the demand for skilled workers,” she says. “With some training programs lasting less than a year, UTI graduates can be prepared for lifelong, fulfilling careers. Students who enjoy hands-on work are well-suited for these careers.”

At MIAT College of Technology, Cody Haley is hunched over a plate of steel, practicing a welding technique. He was never interested in a traditional college degree, but after a stint in the Army, Haley found a future learning to work on aircraft maintenance.

Universal Technical Institute (UTI) has awarded tuition grants to three female students planning to pursue a STEM education and career after they graduate high school next year.

Robert Kessler, regional vice president of operations at Universal Technical Institute and president of UTI’s campus in Exton, Pennsylvania, said demand for their students is at an all-time high and they’re primed to pounce on the best jobs with smartphones in hand.

On Tuesday, Aug. 24, this included the opportunities provided by careers in STEM through the Universal Technical Institute.

"So, I went to Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Orlando, met a girl, moved to Nashville, and started working at custom Harley shops," he says. "I became infatuated with racing motorcycles and cars."

A recent graduate of the NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville, N.C., Harms was able to gain knowledge that he can apply to his racing program. Harms was also able to work with Kyle Busch’s Truck team.
