April 22, 2015 - UTI-Dallas/Fort Worth Hosts State Trooper During Distracted Driving Awareness Month

On Friday, April 17, Texas State Trooper Kyle Bradford discussed the dangers of distracted driving with more than 500 students at Universal Technical Institute – Dallas/Fort Worth as part of education efforts during National Distracted Driving Awareness month. The presentation focused on the many ways that drivers can become distracted and specifically focused on texting, now such a problem that it ranks with DWIs as a leading cause of accidents and fatalities. At the conclusion of the presentation, students signed a banner pledging not to text and drive, which will be displayed at the campus.

Bradford, a Public Information Officer for the Texas Department of Public Safety, delivered an interactive presentation that engaged the students and reinforced the dangers of distracted driving and the consequences on students and other lives.  As future auto and diesel technicians, students want a clean driving record not only for safety, but also to enhance their opportunity for future employment.

UTI’s Diesel & Industrial Technology program is designed to teach students how to diagnose, service and repair diesel and industrial equipment.  Graduates of this program are qualified to work as entry-level service technicians in medium-duty truck facilities, truck dealerships, and service and repair facilities for marine diesel engines and equipment utilized in various industrial applications, including materials handling, construction, transport refrigeration and farming.  These highly sought-after jobs are only available to trained technicians with clean driving records.
