March 6, 2015 - NASCAR Technical Institute Celebrates New Veteran Center Alongside Elected Officials

On January 13, 2015, NASCAR Technical Institute welcomed Mooresville Mayor Miles Aikens and veterans from NASCAR Tech and the Charlotte community to celebrate the completion of its new Veteran Center. The center serves as a central location to honor the school’s more than 200 veteran students, and provides a dedicated space for veteran support services and resources.
Campus President Jennifer Bergeron made remarks, as did Mayor Aikens and veteran student Charles Wright, a 34-year-old combat veteran who served in the Marines, suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. He explained to the audience that the new center will allow veterans to receive counseling, access computers linking to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, grab a cup of coffee and relax. Fellow veteran and NASCAR Tech student, Clayton Pace, agreed, explaining that the new center “gives all veterans a place to go, a place for solitude.”
Remarks were followed by a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and a festive celebration inside of the Veteran Center. Notable attendees included the Virginia Administration Mobile Unit, the President of the Mooresville Chamber of Commerce and the President of the Welcome Home Veterans Living Military Museum.
NASCAR Tech values its partnerships with Welcome Home Veterans, Inc. and the Living Military Museum at Richard’s Coffee Shop. The new center offers a space for collaboration with the local veteran community – in order to align and coordinate various services for veterans.
Veterans make up 20 percent of the student population across all of Universal Technical Institute’s 11 campuses. Universal Technical Institute is a designated “2015 Military Friendly” school and gives veterans a challenging, industry-relevant curriculum that combines hands-on experience, STEM applications and face-time with industry professionals in order to prepare them for careers as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle and marine technicians.
More than 86 percent of UTI veteran graduates from across 11 campuses finds jobs in their field of study, thanks in part to UTI’s specialized services, which are designed to help those who have served our country find opportunities to translate their skills to successful, stable post-military careers.
