Connecting students with employers isn’t a standard at every university or college, but at
Universal Technical Institute in Rancho Cucamonga, graduating students and alumni have the opportunity to do so on a consistent basis, thanks to the campus’ Employment Services Department.
Employment Services Director Erick Sosa and his team coordinated the campus’ latest Graduate Interview Day on Dec. 10, 2014 where students got the chance to meet with potential future employers and tout the technical skills and experience they have earned at UTI.
“Our graduates look forward to Graduate Interview Day because it offers them employment opportunities and helps us employ our graduating classes,” Sosa said.
The event gave UTI’s “Ready for Work” students a glimpse into the job market with one-on-one interviews with more than 20 local automotive and diesel employers including Crown, Quinn Catt and Carmax.
The campus’ Graduate Interview Day comes at an opportune time for graduating students as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale and Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario areas fall in the top 10 metropolitan areas with the highest employment level in the Bus and Truck Mechanics and Diesel Engine Specialist occupation.1
From the attending students, five students received job offers on the spot and 14 percent were offered full-time employment following the initial interviews. More career fairs are on the docket at UTI to help fill the demand for qualified automotive service technicians as employment is projected to grow 15 percent through 2022.2
