Universal Technical Institute (www.uti.edu), the leading provider of post-secondary education for students seeking careers as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle and marine technicians, hosted Peter Elsworth, auto writer for the Providence Journal, as part of the “Graduation Speaker Series” at the UTI-Norwood campus.

The Graduation Speaker Series is an initiative by UTI to work closely with local employers and industry partners to ensure that students are getting the knowledge, skills and hands-on training needed to prepare them to meet the requirements of the changing job market.

In his speech, Mr. Elsworth acknowledged the increasing role that technology plays in today’s automobiles and the influence it has had on the repair technician profession, whose abilities to perform sophisticated computer diagnostics must now match their mechanical skills and training. At the same time, Mr. Elsworth emphasized the importance of professionalism in dealing with customers and colleagues, and the goodwill that courteous behavior and a positive attitude creates and its importance to career success.

“It was great for our graduates to hear how the standards of conduct and attendance that they were graded on as students at UTI matches the expectations of employers and customers,” said Jeremy Conte, Operations & Education Director at UTI-Norwood. “The Graduation Speaker Series allows us to bring industry professionals like Mr. Elsworth to the campus to share insight into both the training and skills valued by industry.”
