September 25, 2014 - Orange Show Speedway Kicks into Overdrive with UTI Students, Graduates

The Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino has changed hands several times in the past few years with each new promoter having a new vision for the track. From a quarter-mile asphalt track to a dirt track and back – again – to asphalt, new promoter Rod Proctor signed on in April of this year with one goal in mind: bring the fun back to racing.

“We want to bring back hard-core racing without the expense,” Proctor told the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.

Proctor lowered racing entry and admission fees as well as tire and food costs in an effort to focus on revitalizing racing culture – not turning a profit. Now, Universal Technical Institute (UTI) in Rancho Cucamonga is joining the cause to create a more affordable and family-friendly environment by being a proud sponsor of the track.

But UTI’s support of the Speedway goes beyond a general sponsorship. Current students and recent graduates now have the opportunity to get some hands-on racing experience by volunteering in the race pits on behalf of UTI.

While changing tires and troubleshooting before, during and after races make for good practice for student volunteers, there’s nothing better than the experience of being in the pits with other gear heads to be a part of the racing culture.

From volunteers to graduates they all agree on one thing – racing and cars are a way of life, and they have fun doing it at the Speedway.
