The leaders of the DuPage Workforce Board (DWB), the entity charged with spearheading the development of the region’s workforce systems, recently hosted their quarterly board meeting at the Lisle campus of Universal Technical Institute (UTI) and toured the facility.
Board members serve in a volunteer capacity and come from a variety of educational, human resources and executive backgrounds. UTI-Lisle offered to host the meeting in order to show key county business leaders the career-training offered in their community and educate them on how UTI works to meet this demand.
“Having the opportunity to tour the board is part of our ongoing effort to build awareness of the well-paying, in-demand careers within the transportation industry that do not require a four-year degree,” said Julie Mueller, campus president of UTI-Lisle. “Employers seek out our graduates because they leave UTI with the skills and professionalism that make them ready to work.”
According to DWB statistics, there is strong demand for automotive, diesel and transportation refrigeration jobs in DuPage County.
When individuals confront a career change or need assistance making a decision on how to improve their employability, they turn to their local workforce offices and workNet centers. In some cases, individuals can even qualify for additional assistance to attend school and attain skills to be successful in the workplace.
By inviting DWB board members to campus, UTI hopes to strengthen this relationship and create opportunities to help these individuals receive career training and job placement assistance in an industry with a positive outlook for employment.
