August 5, 2014 - Father and Son Chase Same Dream

Jeremy Krenz, a student in the automotive technology training program at UTI-Dallas, has always enjoyed tinkering with cars, especially as his son Ethan got older and could work on them with him.

Little did Jeremy know when Ethan was born in 1996 that one day, their mutual love of cars would have them both pursuing the same dream.

Jeremy married young and with a family on the way 18 years ago, he knew he needed to settle down and get a stable job to support his wife and baby.  There were no discussions of furthering his education or following his passion, just the need to buy food and diapers.

Fast forward 17 years, when Jeremy realizes he doesn’t like going to his maintenance job every day. Instead he wants to work in a job that he is passionate about.  A “driveway car guy” his entire life, Jeremy shared his dream with his family. His family developed a plan to pay off bills and live on one income, so Jeremy could enroll as a full time student in the automotive technology training program at Universal Technical Institute and become a certified auto technician.

In June Jeremy’s son Ethan finished his senior year in high school, while Jeremy graduated from UTI in July.  Watching his father pursue his passion and also being a “car guy’ with a recently purchased 1986 Mustang, Ethan decided  to follow in his dad’s footsteps and enroll in the automotive technology training program at UTI-Dallas.  He will start classes in September.

No one was more surprised than Jeremy that Ethan decided to follow his path. Ethan had planned a career in information technology.  However, after watching his father follow his dream and realizing that life in a cubicle was not for him, Ethan said the decision was easy.  He looks forward to joining his dad in the “family business” after graduation next year.
