July 22, 2014 - UTI Grad Becomes One of the Youngest Nissan/Infiniti Master Techs in the Country

As one of the fastest growing car brands, Nissan/Infiniti projects that they will need an additional 2,000 auto technicians through 2016.  For 21-year-old Seth Gibson who graduated from Universal Technical Institute’s Orlando campus in Oct. 2012, the car company’s growth provided a perfect opportunity for a career path.

After passing a final training exam and completing additional automotive training, Gibson recently became one of the youngest Nissan/Infiniti Master Technicians in the country. The Master Tech status represents the highest level of technician certification in the Nissan/Infiniti industry.

Since graduating from UTI, Gibson has been working at Orlando Infiniti.

“Seth started in our apprentice program and in the very short time of less than a year and half he has worked his way up to become a Master Tech,” said Robert Scheiner, fixed operations director at Orlando Infiniti, who recruited Gibson for the job. “When we hire a UTI grad – such as Seth – out of the school’s Nissan program, our company saves more than $16,000 per employee for training purposes – and that’s a substantial help to our bottom line.”

At UTI, Gibson took the 51-week Automotive Technology core program and then enrolled in the school’s nine-week Nissan Automotive Technician Training (NATT) elective. The industry elective class offered Gibson extensive opportunities for hands-on experience with a variety of Nissan and Infiniti vehicles, systems and components.

 “UTI gave me an excellent foundation to immediately start working for Nissan,” said Gibson. “At the NATT elective, I was able to receive the same level of training it takes dealership technicians years to complete and get the training edge I needed for a career that I wanted.”
