June 25, 2014 - Lowrider Magazine Gets the Low Down on UTI-Rancho Cucamonga
The best instructors are those whose passion for what they teach is evident in every aspect of their lives. The same is true at Universal Technical Institute in Rancho Cucamonga where instructors’ love for the auto and diesel industry transforms work into play.
Peter Mata, an instructor at UTI-Rancho Cucamonga, has an obvious passion for cars that comes across in the classroom. When he’s not training the next generation of automotive and diesel technicians, he’s working on his pride and joy lowrider car, making him a great candidate to help escort the Lowrider Magazine team during a recent tour of the campus to learn more about the unique educational experience and hands-on technical training UTI offers students.
Lowrider is a monthly magazine for car enthusiasts that feature primarily the lowrider style. Publisher Rudy Rivas and editors Joe Ray and John Jarasa connected with Mata, whose own lowrider was featured in the magazine 10 years ago.
The magazine staff also met with recent UTI-Rancho Cucamonga graduate Jose Guzman, who secured a full-time job with Heartland Trucking just one month after graduation. In addition to sharing his love of working with diesel engines bigger than him, Guzman told the Lowrider team about his experience as a career-changer after being laid off from his construction job and how UTI helped him succeed.
“Coming to UTI was a dream come true,” Guzman said. “I get goose bumps when I walk into the classroom.”
The tour focused on what makes UTI-Rancho Cucamonga unique. With programs such as Ford Accelerated Credential Training (FACT), Mercedes-Benz ELITE and BMW FastTrack, graduates like Guzman are ready to enter the workforce immediately following graduation because of hands-on, factory-authorized training leading the campus’ curriculum standards.
Rivas, Ray and Jarasa agreed -- the sentiment shown by students, graduates, instructors and car enthusiasts alike is passion; for their work, for their personal vehicles, and for pursuing in-demand careers.
UTI-Rancho Cucamonga will be featured in Lowrider later this year.
