Doug Brauner – better known in Northern California and nationally as the “Car Czar” – shined the spotlight on Universal Technical Institute (UTI) Sacramento and its students, faculty, administrators, and overall programs in a recent episode.
Brauner brought his “Car Czar” TV show to campus to film a full, 30-minute episode from UTI for his show on KMAX-TV in Northern California.
Brauner not only talks about cars – he loves them. He owns two auto repair shops in Sacramento and his auto technicians include several UTI graduates, who he notes come highly trained.
The Car Czar’s first segment was dedicated to providing viewers with the career possibilities the auto industry can provide students, followed by a close look at opportunities for women in the automotive industry.
“It’s not like the old days where you can get into a shop and work your way through it,” said John Berkhoel, UTI’S Education Manager. “You need a good fundamental understanding of computers, electronics, and how they interact with each other.”
Reporter Heather Brent interviewed UTI student Kate Beardsley about her career aspirations in a field that’s considered male-dominated.
“Sometimes I will get – ‘you can’t do this, you can’t do that, you’re a girl.’ But I just show them I can all the time,” Beardsley said during her interview.
Another segment was dedicated to the collision repair program that UTI offers, with a focus on the demand for good collision repair technicians.
Segments of the show also focused on the unique diesel program and the impressive cafeteria where Doug Brauner stopped and chatted with several students.
The Car Czar Show on UTI aired Sunday, Jan. 12. To view the full show, click here.
