December 20, 2013 - UTI Students learn the dangers of drinking and driving

Amid the holiday season, many people will be attending parties with friends and loved ones.

And ultimately, at these festive parties, people will have a drink, or even multiple ones, then face a decision: Should I be driving home?

As part of its monthly life skills seminars, Universal Technical Institute (UTI) welcomed Becky Good of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to its Sacramento campus on November 20.

“Students are more than a number, and we invest time and energy into helping them gain necessary life skills while they are at UTI,” said Tess Dubois-Carey, Student Services Director.

Dozens of students filled the auditorium to listen to Becky’s testimonial of how she lost both her father and fiancé to drunk-driving accidents.

She not only discussed how drinking and driving has changed her life, but also shared with students that they have the power to prevent a tragedy like this from occurring.

In conjunction with Becky’s story, MADD also brought in a vehicle that had been in a tragic drunk-driving accident where the individual driving under the influence of alcohol died.

UTI-Sacramento students also shared their testimonials of how driving under the influence of alcohol has impacted their personal lives and those around them.

NBC affiliate, KCRA-3 and Univision KUVS 19 TV stations, were at the MADD event and captured footage of students learning the dangers of drinking and driving.

“There are consequences if you drink and drive,” UTI student José Raigosa said in his interview with Univision. “It’s not just a DUI ticket, there are more serious consequences, such as taking someone’s life if you cause an accident while driving under the influence.”
