The Universal Technical Institute in Exton recently held a special Veterans Day luncheon to honor its more than 150 veteran students and staff on campus for their dedicated service to the country. As a ‘thank you’ to the veterans on campus, special guest, South Philadelphia native and legendary World War II Veteran, William “Wild Bill” Guarnere showed up to meet with students and hand out autographs.
Guarnere, who served in Easy Company, 101st Airborne, is considered a silent hero to people across the globe and has been honored by presidents, senators, governors and countless local organizations dedicated to great American citizens. Most recently he has received significant media attention for his prominently featured role in the HBO documentary, “Band of Brothers.” He still lives in South Philadelphia and remains very active as a guest speaker on various radio and talk shows and goes around to area schools to educate the younger generation on the achievements of the “Greatest Generation.”
Veterans make up a huge proportion (15 – 18%) of the student population across all of Universal Technical Institute’s 11 campuses. Universal Technical Institute offers veterans a challenging, industry-relevant curriculum that combines hands-on experience, STEM applications and face-time with industry professionals in order to prepare them for careers as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle and marine technicians.
“It is important to recognize these individuals for their dedicated service, not just on Veteran’s Day, but every day,” said Michael Chapman, Student Services Director. “The fact that such a large population of veterans are choosing to pursue a career path in the automotive technician field is certainly a trend on the rise, and we are proud to offer veterans such a valuable education that combines the skills and industry experience necessary to ensure they have a bright and promising future.”
