September 30, 2013 - For the Love of the Ride: Award-Winning Motorcycle Tour Writer Gary McKechnie Visits MMI-Orlando

MMI-Orlando’s campus recently hosted award-winning travel writer and motorcycle tour expert Gary McKechnie in a free community event titled, “For the Love of the Ride: The Best Places in the U.S. to Visit on Two Wheels.”

From the rocky coasts of Maine to the deep forests of Washington, McKechnie has traveled tens of thousands of miles to discover the best rides in the nation — resulting in his best-selling guidebook, Great American Motorcycle Tours.

Nearly 80 students and community members attended the event. McKechnie shared some of his favorite U.S. motorcycle destinations along with the sights, sounds and stories that went with them.

“The Motorcycle Mechanics Institute was the perfect venue to give an inspiring motorcycle talk,” said McKechnie. “The campus has the exhilarating smell like a motorcycle showroom, and you can feel the dedication and talent that these students possess. My toolbox consists of a hammer and a spoon — so motorcycle technicians are people I rely on to help me live my dream.”

In addition, McKechnie was impressed that one of his main sponsors for his book, Kawasaki, was a proud industry partner with the school.

“Gary’s talk was a perfect blend of humor, history and motivation,” said Mike Coburn, employment services director at UTI. “He loves motorcycles just as much as our students — and his passion about hitting the open road in the U.S. hit home with us.”
