September 11, 2013 - UTI-Exton Hosts Career Fair; Helps Answer Regional Need for Skilled Auto Techs

Universal Technical Institute in Exton hosted its second career fair of the year on Thursday, August 22 at its campus. Students and recent graduates of the program had the opportunity to meet and set up interviews with employers from more than 25 companies in the area, including Ryder, Chapman Auto Group, STS Tire and Auto, Penske and AMTRAK.

Although unemployment remains high, employers have demonstrated an increasing demand for qualified candidates possessing greater technical skills and industry experience. The career fair was just one of several channels in which UTI is helping to mend the gap between employer-employee supply and demand. The event offered an opportunity for matching up entry-level applicants with employers searching to fill their employee roster with professionals who are already armed with industry leading credentials – and in some cases, manufacturer-endorsed credentials.

The fair served a dual purpose in that it gave students and recent grads the opportunity to sell themselves in front of prospective employers, while at the same time provided participating companies with a pool of highly professional trained and skilled technicians from which they can hire future employees.

“The career fair is just one of many channels in which UTI provides meaningful opportunities for students to be in front of prospective employers in order to demonstrate their high level of professionalism and competitive skill set,” said Bob Kessler, Campus President at UTI-Exton. “We understand the importance of partnering with industry manufacturers to not only provide them with a continuous, trusted roster of entry-level professionals,  but also to ensure our students are armed with the skills and expertise required to exceed their expectations upon entering the workforce.”

According to information on WorkBoots.com , among all U.S. employers, 52% are having trouble filling jobs, and that includes technicians. With an estimated 600,000 skilled jobs that are currently unfilled, career fairs such as UTI’s serve a greater purpose now than ever before. As more and more companies (nearly 83%) report a shortage of skilled workers, the responsibility lies in the hands of educational institutions to provide opportunities for well-trained, qualified students to market themselves to employers in need of their highly specialized skillset.
