Dallas City Councilmember Jerry Allen recently joined Universal Technical Institute-Dallas/Fort Worth Campus President Jesus Miranda on a tour of the school to learn more about the training and job opportunities a Universal Technical Institute education provides.
During the visit, Councilmember Allen and Miranda discussed how skills-based training like Universal Technical Institute offers leads to good jobs.
“The auto and diesel industry in North Texas is booming,” said Dallas City Councilmember Jerry Allen. “Qualified technicians are in demand and the employment outlook is very good right now, as is the salary they earn in the field.”
“And, because of Universal Technical Institute’s commitment to offering students real world experience, graduates of the school enter the workforce with the skills they need to succeed,” he added.
Of particular interest to Councilmember Allen during the tour were the job opportunities and pay available for qualified technicians.
“Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas reports the mean wage for auto technicians in Dallas County is $18.49 per hour and $20.45 for diesel technicians,” said Jesus Miranda, Campus President of Universal Technical Institute-Dallas/Fort Worth. “And, unlike in many industries, their jobs can’t be outsourced.”
Miranda spoke at length about the employer relationships the campus has with companies like Park Place Dealerships, Sewell Automotive Dealerships, Penske Truck Rental and Dallas Area Rapid Transit.
As they passed by a group of students learning about hybrids, Miranda explained to Councilmember Allen all of the technological advancements today’s cars and trucks have and how technicians must have problem-solving and analytical skills to successfully make repairs.
