August 8, 2013 - Local Seniors Get in Gear for Free Car Inspections

While most people routinely take steps to make their cars ready for winter, it’s also important to have a tune-up and check-in before the summer season hits. Recognizing the importance of this, the Glendale Heights campus of Universal Technical Institute and Sunrise Chevrolet recently teamed up to help provide free car inspections for local senior citizens at the Glendale Heights Center for Senior Citizens.

As part of this senior car care event, participants brought their vehicles to the Senior Center, where UTI had set up a temporary car inspection area. At the event, UTI and Sunrise Chevrolet technicians checked fluid levels, inspected tire tread and pressure, and checked car batteries. They were also on hand to answer automotive-related questions and concerns.

Mike Vivona, a former instructor and current Marketing Manger for UTI-Glendale Heights and an expert in all things automotive, helped organize the event and participated in the day’s event.

“While UTI has a strong reputation as a leading provider of workforce training in the automotive and diesel technician fields, our campus is also known for our commitment to the community,” said Vivona. “Events such as senior car care day are part of UTI’s ongoing dedication to the residents of DuPage County. ”

After the inspections, advisors were available to inform seniors on their results and to make suggestions for repair or maintenance. The program participants appreciated the ease of the on-site location, as well as the opportunity to ask questions of expert staff from UTI and Sunrise.

“This was an easy way to work with one of our great industry partners, Sunrise Chevrolet, to give back and provide assistance to area seniors,” concluded Vivona.

As one of the top automotive schools in the country and with a 25 year history in DuPage County, UTI has a proven record of giving back to the community through events like senior car care day, blood drives and volunteerism.
