June 21, 2013 - UTI-Glendale Heights Student Council Continues Tradition of Community Involvement

Students at Universal Technical Institute’s Glendale Heights campus aren’t only focused on obtaining the skills to be ready for their careers in the industry - they’re also committed to giving back to the community. Recently, the UTI Glendale Heights Student Council met with Community Consolidated School District 15 to present an award of the popular Box Tops for Education.

“It is inspiring to see our student leaders take a role in their community and be active contributors, ” said Julie Mueller, campus president. “Employers look for workers who are well-rounded, knowledgeable and demonstrate leadership in and out of the classroom.”

The delegation from UTI met with Dr. Jerry O’Shea, assistant superintendent of District 15, who informed the group that the donation would help purchase equipment for gym classes and assist low-income families with various educational needs. District 15 serves the communities of Palatine, Rolling Meadows and Arlington Heights, among others.

The Box Tops for Education program has helped America’s schools by donating more than $475 million since 1996. Hundreds of products at local grocery stores and even some online purchases can be turned in and collected to help raise funds for local schools.

The UTI Student Council, along with UTI staff, helped collect the box tops for the most recent donation. The staff was excited to help the Student Council in its efforts to raise funds for a neighboring school district.

“We allow our Student Council to grow from the bottom up and it is great to see the students step up and choose to be involved and give back to the community,” said Ted Little, student affairs advisor and lead liaison to the student council. “Whether it is donating at blood drives, organizing events like this, or volunteering at organizations, UTI students give back.”

In anticipation of UTI’s upcoming relocation to Lisle, the administration at the UTI Glendale Heights campus has been busy meeting with organizations and groups in DuPage County to continue its tradition of giving back.

“UTI values being involved in the community, and during the past 25 years we’ve built great relationships with our neighbors,” continued Mueller. “We view our move to Lisle as an opportunity to get further involved with a number of outstanding organizations, and continue our rewarding involvement in the region.”
