June 19, 2013 - Committed to Changing Lives on Campus and in the Community
The staff at Universal Technical Institute (UTI) in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. is not only dedicated to changing lives on campus, but also in the community. They recently connected with Pacific Lifeline, a San Francisco-based organization providing support for newly homeless women and their children. Pacific Lifeline, their partners and volunteers set out to complete a number of projects throughout the year that enhance the lives of those less fortunate. UTI-Rancho Cucamonga is now proud to be included in the roster of trusted partners and volunteers.
“UTI is committed to this community and doing everything we can to improve the lives of its residents,” said Sean Carlson, campus president.
UTI-Rancho Cucamonga staff members have already participated in one Pacific Lifeline neighborhood project, which included organizing storage closets, and raking, weeding and sweeping shelters in Upland, Calif. An ongoing initiative, the team will try to volunteer at least once per month moving forward.
The goal of being a larger force in the community doesn’t just start and stop with staff members. UTI-Rancho Cucamonga student council members, under the leadership of the student services department, have also been impactful within the area, often taking time outside of class to help others.
Students and staff spent time at Sunrise Senior Living facility on Valentine’s Day to interact with residents and deliver a number of gifts including hand-tied blankets and hygiene items. Residents were grateful for the time they got to spend with the students and staff, but the UTI team took away more from the experience then they expected.
“At that moment, I understood the true meaning behind UTI’s purpose,” said Raquishela Stewart, UTI-Rancho Cucamonga’s student services director. “We have the opportunity to change the world one life at a time with each person we come in contact with.”
