Universal Technical Institute is proud to announce that Elvira Aguirre, a Universal Technical Institute Dallas/Ft. Worth student, is the winner of the 2013 Girls World Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded each year to one deserving student interested in attending Universal Technical Institute and provides $10,000 toward tuition.
Aguirre applied for the scholarship last year while a high school senior. This spring, she was on her way to class when Ken Foster, an admissions representative, called her with the fantastic news.
“I’ve never won anything before and this award will really help me achieve my goal of working in the automotive or diesel industry.” said Aguirre.
The Girls World Scholarship provides a $10,000 tuition scholarship to students seeking enrollment at Universal Technical Institute, Motorcycle Mechanics Institute or Marine Mechanics Institute who reflect a true commitment to converting their passion for automobiles, trucks, motorcycles or boats into a career as a professional technician. High school juniors and seniors who meet all other admissions requirements may apply for the tuition scholarship, prorated over the entire term of the student’s program. Any student meeting the criteria may apply, and only one award is given each year.
Aguirre, who is enrolled in the automotive/diesel technology program, has worked on cars as long as she can remember. In addition to having several family members who work in auto repair shops, her father worked on helicopters in the Navy. After completing her coursework and graduating, Aguirre hopes to one day work for Honda, Toyota or NASCAR.
