April 1, 2013 - Sacramento Vice Mayor visits Sacramento campus gets sneak peek at Lexus Hybrid

Sacramento Vice Mayor Angelique Ashby applauded Universal Technical Institute’s (UTI) community efforts and forward-looking training during a visit to the local campus in late January.

Ashby, who represents District 1 on the City Council that includes the Sacramento campus, spent about an hour touring the 245,000-square-foot campus and its two buildings.

“I’m very impressed with the facility,” said Ashby, whose tour included the Ford Accelerated Credential Training, Toyota Professional Automotive Training and the Nissan Automotive Technician Training programs.

She also enjoyed seeing the 2013 hybrid Lexus, used to help train next-generation technicians on the latest hybrid technology. The tour included the diesel and industrial lab -- where students were experiencing hands-on training – and ended with the Collision Repair and Refinish lab.

Ashby, who lives nearby, said she appreciates how Universal Technical Institute has been such a good neighbor, making meeting rooms available to the community and supporting safe-driving efforts.

“We’re always focusing on what we can do in the community to help support Sacramento,” said Tess Dubois-Carey, UTI-Sacramento’s student services director. “It was truly an honor to have the Vice Mayor to our campus and see firsthand the type of training that is going on in a facility our size.”
