March 11, 2013 - UTI – Sacramento Welcomes Nearly 750 High School Students at Monster Jam Open House

It was a packed house at the Universal Technical Institute (UTI) campus in Sacramento as bus after bus of high school students arrived to take a tour of the 245,000 square foot campus and get an up-close and personal look at two Monster Jam trucks, Grave Digger® and Scooby-Doo™.

“This event is a great opportunity for high school students to get out onto the campus, have some fun, enjoy the monster trucks, and experience what their careers beyond high school can look like,” said UTI-Sacramento Education Director Don Black.

Grave Digger driver Carl Van Horn signed autographs and posed for photographs with a long line of fans. In addition to the high school students, parents brought their children to see the Monster Jam trucks up close and personal. Many of the kids enjoyed sitting on Scooby-Doo’s big 66-inch Terre tires to take pictures.

Crews from three Sacramento area television stations – local affiliates for ABC, FOX and Univision – were present for the event as well.

Van Horn and Grave Digger technician Ricky Stevens answered questions about their careers working with the monster trucks. Van Horn told the story about how he started his career as a monster truck technician and then he tried out for the position of driver. He said he enjoys the opportunity to visit different cities when he is on the Monster Jam tour and meeting all the fans.
