Motorsports drivers, thousands of attendees and live music can all be found at a typical weekend stop during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Yet on Dec. 11, these familiar NASCAR elements culminated at NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville, N.C., for the 23rd annual Stocks-for-Tots event, put on by former Penske Racing President, Don Miller, and the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame.
Founded in 1989, Stocks-for-Tots and the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame brings together stock car racing and its fans, while raising funds and awareness for child abuse prevention.
“We have lost a lot of kids at the hands of adults this year in North Carolina,” said John Dodson, NASCAR team and community relations director at NASCAR Tech. “The opportunity to join our industry partners to raise awareness for such an important cause is something we simply cannot pass up year after year.”
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Driver Ryan Newman, along with 100 other motorsports celebrities signed autographs for the 1,000 event attendees, and together helped bring in more than 1,500 toys for children in need.
“NASCAR Live” on MRN Radio also joined the cause this year by broadcasting live from the event with legendary host, Eli Gold, interviewing drivers throughout the night.
All proceeds from the event go to Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) of Iredell Country, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children, supporting parents and improving the community. Since its inception 23 years ago, the annual event has raised more than $850,000, and distributed nearly 51,000 toys to children in the area.
