December 17, 2012 - TLC’s “Extreme Couponing” Star Leads Couponing Class at UTI-Sacramento

Staff members at UTI-Sacramento recently turned their passion for changing lives into saving change, and lots of it, by offering an extreme couponing class.

UTI-Sacramento hosted two free couponing classes for its students, staff and community members. Working in conjunction with the Sacramento Bee newspaper’s circulation department, the classes were promoted by “the Bee” and yielded more than 300 visitors to the campus during the two classes.

Jennifer Morris, who has been on the hit TLC show “Extreme Couponing,” led both classes, providing tips and tricks for saving money on grocery items, with the end goal of cutting grocery spending in half.

Upon finding out that she was pregnant with her fifth child; Morris knew she needed to start thinking about ways to save money for her growing family. Couponing was the answer. She explained to the groups that the money saved from couponing alone helped her family buy a larger home and a new car, and still have money left over.

Tess Dubois-Carey, UTI-Sacramento student services director, started couponing recently and was looking forward to the new tips she could learn from Morris. Dubois-Carey was able to save her family $700 in five weeks by couponing and buying items on sale with coupons – now there’s no telling how much she’ll save after attending Morris’ class!
