December 12, 2012 - Midwest High School Students and Counselors Set GPS for UTI-Glendale Heights

In October, fans of powerful engines and new technology parked their rides alongside advocates of automotive education at Universal Technical Institute (UTI) in Glendale Heights, Ill, when the campus played host to both Power Palooza and the Midwest Counselor’s Conference.

A dozen UTI instructors pitched in for the Power Palooza hands-on lab activities. More than 80 visitors worked their way through the six available workshops. High school students tested and monitored a live running engine during the diesel workshop. While the diesel stop was popular, it was the horsepower station that revved up the crowd and was the fan favorite.

“As a part of the Hot Rod Workshop, we challenged guests to achieve optimal power on the Engine Dynamometer,” said Glendale Heights Local Marketing Manager Mike Vivona. “The high school students always get a kick out of the dyno. To be honest, it’s still my favorite too.”

While students and car enthusiasts got their hands dirty as they worked through the workshops, nearly a dozen high school counselors met to discuss the academic groundwork for students prior to applying to UTI.

“The Counselor’s Conference is a great opportunity for sharing best practices, discussing what works and doesn’t, and collaborating on new ideas to prepare students for education after high school,” added Vivona.
