November 5, 2012 - UTI-Rancho Cucamonga helps Santa Ana Valley High School auto program earn NATEF certification

With the guidance and support of Universal Technical Institute (UTI), the George P. Heidler, Jr. Automotive, Transportation and Logistics (ATL) Academy at Valley High School has received certification from the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). NATEF is the nonprofit organization that evaluates technician training programs against standards developed by the automotive industry, and ATL at Valley High School is the first school in Orange County to receive certification from NATEF.

The NATEF certification is the result of a partnership between the Santa Ana Unified School District and the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce to improve the performance of Valley High School students, ensuring its graduates are the preferred resource of employers, entrepreneurs, and colleges and universities. The NATEF certification validates that ATL Academy students at Valley High School are receiving the proper training needed to pursue a career as an automotive technician, sending the message that Valley High School students are ready to learn and ready to work.

ATL is one of six High School, Inc. (HIS) Academies. HSI began in 2006 and developed under the leadership of the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce and its business and education partners. It was created to establish a strong connection to businesses in key industries by developing local talent to strengthen the economic base.

HSI at Valley High School, UTI, the Santa Ana Unified School District and the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce celebrated the certification and its impact on the economic vitality of the community with a program at Valley High School in Santa Ana, Calif. last month.

Reflecting the importance of this inaugural certification in Orange County, the office of Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, who represents California’s 47th Congressional District, presented Valley High School with a Certificate of Congressional Recognition at the celebration. The Principal of Valley High School, the Superintendent of the Santa Ana Unified School District and the President of the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce all made remarks at the celebration.

The Orange County Register also attended the event and included a summary online: http://www.ocregister.com/news/school-369958-program-high.html.
