October 5, 2012 - Universal Technical Institute in Norwood Hosts Interactive Auto Workshop for YMCA Camp for Teens

The UTI Norwood campus hosted an Auto Workshop interactive field trip for eighteen students from the West Roxbury YMCA through their “Y Teens On The Go Camp at Dedham” program. The teens spent a full day at the UTI campus learning about what happens in an auto shop as well as some basic car maintenance.

The student group gained hands-on experience using power tools, operating lifts, learning how to change a tire, and practicing taking off lug nuts. The teens also toured UTI classrooms and saw a demonstration of how an automotive engine compares to a diesel engine. They also had the opportunity to sit inside a large diesel truck and a real NASCAR race car.

“This was a fun day for these teens, and a great way to learn some basics about car maintenance and to experience what it really means to study subjects like auto technology after high school,” said Dan Poor, Business Development Manager for UTI in Norwood and former automotive technology instructor.
