September 27, 2012 - UTI-Avondale technical team leader and instructor, Jason Mosler, supports local high school students with “mock interviews”

“A little guidance goes a long way.”

These are words to live by as far as Jason Mosler, technical team leader and instructor for UTI-Avondale, is concerned.

In August 2012, he attended a “mock interview” event at Ironwood High School in Glendale, Ariz. Students looking for career options in technical fields had the opportunity to practice their interview skills in a professional setting. The mock interviews provided students real-world experience to help acquire scholarships, attain mentors and land internships. The immediate feedback from members of the business and education community prepares them for careers in their chosen industry.

Mosler interviewed several students during the event and provided useful tips on proper mannerisms and professionalism, ways to build confidence, and offered suggestions about the right questions to ask during an interview.

“I was impressed with the students at Ironwood and wish more high schools would host similar events for their students,” said Mosler. “Leaving a great impression in an interview is no small feat, so I was happy to direct students towards the right path in how to do this. My goal was to give students the confidence they need to gain opportunities in the technical industry of their choice.”

Ironwood High School hosts “mock interview” events twice a year and has plans to host another one later in the fall.
