September 20, 2012 - UTI-Avondale Increases Awareness for Job Opportunities in the Automotive Technology Industry

While there are currently 23 million Americans unemployed, the job outlook for those interested in becoming automotive technicians is a bright one. UTI-Avondale hosted the local Phoenix FOX-TV affiliate on campus to discuss this and how the industry is becoming less about grease and more about advanced technology.

Some of the highlights from the story included:

- During the next eight years, companies will have to fill nearly 125,000 new jobs for auto mechanics.
- According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average automotive mechanic earns about $36,000 a year, but that pay can grow to $60,000 and diverging career paths
- General Motors, Ford Motor and Chrysler Group say most of their mechanics are in their early 40s, and as they retire there will be a shortage of workers to fill those jobs.
- The auto mechanic industry is expected to add 30,000 jobs this year alone.
- UTI is able to employ 4 out of every 5 students who graduate from its programs.*

Campus President Mike Romano was interviewed, as well as students Duc Nguyen and Raresh Golea. In fact, Golea received two job offers after the segment aired on television.
