August 21, 2012 - Suburban First Responders Learn Hybrid Vehicle Safety

In June, firefighters and emergency first responders from around the Chicagoland area visited the UTI-Glendale Heights campus to learn how to handle a hybrid vehicle and engine in the event of an automotive collision, accident, or vehicle fire.

More than 35 emergency personnel from the Bloomingdale and Glendale Heights Fire Departments attended the training sessions. The two suburban Fire Departments trained in shifts for three days with UTI Instructors and students.

This was a great opportunity for us to get hands on with these vehicles,” said Chief Jeff Janus, Bloomingdale Fire Chief. “It’s important to know the details and hazards of hybrid vehicles when we encounter them in emergency situations.”

Glendale Heights Instructor Rick Tuck also noted, “There are more hybrids on the road every year. We’re glad we get to lend a hand and help the local Fire Departments gain a better understanding of hybrids.”
