June 22, 2012 - UTI-Glendale Heights Graduate Shawn Bartz Drives Armored Truck Training in the Military

Through his time at UTI-Glendale Heights, Shawn Bartz aimed to work on high-end sports cars. In time, Shawn’s vision changed, and took him on an adventure the automotive technical student never imagined.

Shawn graduated from UTI-Glendale Heights in 2001, and then was accepted to the Porsche Technology Apprenticeship Program in Naples, FL. Shawn thought it was a perfect fit, as he’s always loved Porches and the opportunity to work in Florida made the job even more appealing.  After time, though, Shawn reflected on his goals and realized that above and beyond a job, he wanted to return to his home in Michigan.

A few short years later, Shawn was offered a job from the Oshkosh Corporation to work on big trucks. With an education in Truck Technology from UTI-Glendale Heights, Shawn was eager for the opportunity, especially since those trucks were located in Kuwait.

Since 2009, Shawn has been training military personnel, especially with the United States Marine Corp, on the heavy armored trucks they use in combat zones. He has traveled around the world to train members of the U.S. armed forces.

“Being able to support our armed forces is a job that I find incredibly rewarding, and I take great pride in what I do,” Bartz said. “It’s a dream I never knew I had, but now it’s a dream come true.”
