June 4, 2012 - UTI-Norwood Works with SkillsUSA to Support Technical Education in New England High Schools

UTI-Norwood is proud to work with SkillsUSA Massachusetts (www.maskillsusa.org) to manage and support the 2012 automotive, diesel, and marine competitions for technical high school students at the district and state levels within Massachusetts. In addition to managing the competitions in Massachusetts, staff from the UTI-Norwood campus successfully managed the automotive competition for SkillsUSA Vermont.

UTI-Norwood also offered more than $112,000 in scholarships to the top three winners in four different competitions. And for the first time, in 2012 UTI-Norwood donated a clip car to the technical high school of the student who won first place in the automotive competition, Peter Hutchins of Southeastern Regional Technical High School. A clip car is the front-half of a front-wheel drive car that provides students invaluable hands-on experience as part of their technical education. UTI-Norwood’s donation of a clip car is an enormous value to local public technical high schools that are struggling to maintain educational standards in a tough, budget-minded economy.

The 2012 SkillsUSA Massachusetts state competition winners for all 90 technical fields will advance to the national competitions in Kansas City, Mo. being held June 22-28.
