UTI-Norwood is proud to have volunteered a team of faculty and staff to help organize, judge, and sponsor the National Automotive Technology Competition (www.nationalautotech.com),which ran April 2-3, 2012 in New York City. The national-level competition is held each year as part of the New York International Automobile Show, the largest car show in the U.S., to showcase the nation's best high school automotive education students and raise the level of technical education standards. Sponsored by the National Automobile Dealers Association, Snap On, and Lincoln Tech, the National Automotive Technology Competition is the premier automotive high school competition and features cars from every major domestic and foreign manufacturer.

This year UTI was also asked to provide one of six lead judges for the competition, a prestigious request that demonstrates UTI's reputation as an industry leader in post-secondary technical education. Dan Poor, Local Market Manager for UTI-Norwood and the selected lead judge, was responsible for monitoring and judging four testing stations, including scoring of the written exams. UTI has participated in the National Automotive Technology Competition as a sponsor since 1994, and 2012 marks the first year UTI participated in the judging.

In addition to judging the competition, UTI brought a custom 1955 Chevrolet and a racing-prepared Nissan GTR to display and ran a Spark Plug Challenge at the career fair. UTI also sponsored the highly popular Competition Breakfast for students, instructors, and families and provided motivational guest speaker Ricky Craven, a former NASCAR Champion and ESPN Sports Center co-host.

U
TI also offered more than $100,000 in scholarships to the top five teams in the competition, including full tuition scholarships for the first place winning team.
