Dec. 22, 2011 - UTI Foundation Unveils Clip Car at Old Bridge High School in New Jersey
Students from Old Bridge High School in New Jersey accept clip car from the UTI Foundation |
Dec. 22, 2011 - For students from the Old Bridge High School auto program, the holidays arrived early this year. On Dec. 5, 2011, representatives from the UTI Foundation unveiled a clip car that was being donated to the school. The clip car is the final item in the first place, $25,000 prize package that Old Bridge won as part of the UTI Foundation Drive To Succeed video competition – “Why My Auto Shop Needs a Makeover.”
We are very excited to receive the clip car," said Robert McClure, automotive instructor at Old Bridge High School. "I’ve been teaching for 30 years and this has been one of the best experiences. Students throughout the school put a lot of creativity and energy into producing the winning video. The money and prizes we received from the UTI Foundation’s Drive To Succeed have not only helped to improve and update our program; they have increased the morale of students."
A clip car is a fully-functional vehicle that has been altered, and cut in half, to become a learning tool for aspiring auto technicians. In addition to the clip car valued at more than $7,000, Old Bridge received $7,000 in cash, $12,500 in tools and equipment from Snap-on® and a set of tires from Bridgestone/Firestone.
“The UTI Foundation is so excited to provide Old Bridge with a clip car to enhance the educational experience that students receive,” said Veronica Meury, vice president and executive director for the UTI Foundation. “The $25,000 prize package of money, equipment and tools was made possible through generous donations from Snap-on® and Bridgestone/ Firestone – true education champions.”
UTI Foundation launched its Drive To Succeed video competition in Fall 2010. In addition to the Why My Auto Shop Needs a Make-over portion of the competition for high school auto shop classes, high school seniors were invited to produce a two to three minute video – Why I Want To Be A Technician. Nearly 100 videos were submitted.
