April 21, 2011 - Universal Technical Institute/Grave Digger® Scholarship Recipient for 2011 Announced

Monster Jam®, Universal Technical Institute (UTI), and four-time Monster Jam World Finals champion Dennis Anderson have named Andre Clemente, of Burlingame, Calif., the 2011 UTI Grave Digger® Scholarship recipient of $10,000.

“I was super excited to be a part of the UTI scholarship again this year,” exclaimed Anderson. “I truly feel that it is an honor to be part of something this special, and I look forward to it every year. We chose Andre because we truly felt his sincerity from watching his video... he seemed like he wanted to make me proud.”

When asked about the impact this award has on an individual’s career, Anderson stated, “In the beginning of my monster truck career, I remember those who were there for me. I believe that’s what kept me motivated and what kept me moving on with my dream. If it weren’t for the support, I would have given up a long time ago. This scholarship award is very significant to someone’s career/dream and I hope it motivates them to do better and be better.”

This is the sixth year the scholarship was offered, which aids in creating opportunities for individuals to pursue training in all facets of motor sports/automotive technology. Interested individuals completed a scholarship entry form on the UTI Garage web site and sent in an original two-minute video explaining why they should receive the UTI Grave Digger Scholarship. After evaluating the videos and making final selections, Anderson called Clemente personally to inform him about the scholarship award for training at a UTI campus of choice.

“There are people who are passionate about becoming professional technicians, but they may not have the financial support to complete a training program. It is a privilege to align with industry leaders who support education through these programs and scholarships, and provide the means for individuals to pursue their dream careers,” said Terry Emig, Director of Motor Sports at UTI.
