April 6, 2011 - Hundreds Attend Inaugural Drive to Succeed Event to Raise Funds for Scholarships

April 6, 2011 - Zoom, whoosh, vroom! The UTI Foundation’s inaugural Drive to Succeed event was a success! Hundreds of sponsors, attendees and volunteers came out to the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Chandler, Ariz. on Saturday, April 2, to cheer on Super Kart racers raising funds for UTI Foundation scholarships! More than $100,000 in scholarships and shop equipment were awarded while Super Kart racers from 11 companies zoomed around the track, and attendees enjoyed these fun activities:

·         Cheering on Super Kart race teams

·         “Bounce” house for children

·         Caricature portraits

·         Remote control car racing

·         Vendor area (food and others)

·         Silent auction featuring exciting items like a 5 day / 4 night Cancun stay, Sea Life Arizona tickets, NASCAR VIP passes, golf outing, signed sports memorabilia from the AZ Cardinals, Coyotes, Diamondbacks and Suns and more!

The event was free, and each attendee was asked to bring one non-perishable food item, which went to the UTI/MMI Student Pantries.

This fun, exciting day concluded with an awards ceremony to recognize the race winners, as well as award scholarships and equipment to the Drive to Succeed video contest winners:

·         I Want to Be a Technician: $25,000 UTI scholarship awarded to Jeremy Vaughn of Guin, Alabama

·         My Auto Shop Needs a Makeover: $25,000 equipment package awarded to Old Bridge High School of Matawan, New Jersey, Bob Mc Clure shop teacher accepting.

After many laps around the Super Kart track, the winners of the inaugural Drive to Succeed race were determined:

·         First place: Firestone Complete Car Care Centers, racing on behalf of Ironwood High School, for a $10,000 UTI Foundation scholarship, and received the UTI Cup
