Universal Technical Institute-Lisle celebrates the first graduating class of Wind Turbine and Industrial Maintenance technician programs

Both fields are expected to experience double-digit employment demand growth through 2032.

LISLE, Ill. (May 29, 2024) – Universal Technical Institute-Lisle (UTI-Lisle) has graduated the first class from its new Wind Turbine and Industrial Maintenance Technician (IMT) programs and recently launched a 51-week Robotics and Automation course. This brings the campus program count to six, including Automotive, Diesel, and Welding Technology.

The Wind Turbine Technician program prepares graduates to pursue entry-level wind turbine, installation, and field service technician positions, which the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the demand for will grow by 45% between 2022 and 2032. The program offered at UTI-Lisle is one of the first 7-month wind programs in the country to have the Global Wind Organisation’s Basic Safety Certification embedded in the curriculum.

Vestas has hired 80% of the graduating class of UTI-Lisle's Wind Turbine Technician program.

Mike Jones, senior site manager at Vestas, noted: "When considering candidates at Vestas, we prioritize attitude and work ethic. While experience and education are important, a positive attitude and a strong work ethic are qualities that cannot be taught. That's why we choose to recruit talent from UTI, where students receive comprehensive education and demonstrate a commitment to hard work and excellence, giving them an advantage in the field.”

“At Vestas, there are countless opportunities for growth and advancement, especially for those who embody hard work, punctuality, and determination. With our Task Based Certification program, employees can set their own pace and quickly climb the ranks within our rapidly expanding organization,” Jones added.

Logan Cooke, who graduated from the inaugural Wind class and is now employed at Vestas, shared, “After high school, I knew I wanted to continue my education with something hands-on in the electrical and energy fields. I love working in renewable energy and enjoy the teamwork that is a part of it. The inclusion of GWO’s safety training allowed me to start as a Tech II right out of school.”

“At UTI-Lisle, we believe education should be a hands-on experience. We're proud to offer a dynamic and unique educational environment that helps equip our students with the knowledge needed for today's evolving workforce,” commented Roger Gomez, president of the UTI-Lisle campus.

"As graduating high school students and career changers consider hands-on technical careers outside the traditional career model, UTI is committed to offering a wide range of programs whose graduates will help meet the need for skilled technicians in these growing fields," said UTI Division President Tracy Lorenz.

The IMT program prepares graduates to pursue entry-level industrial maintenance, installation, field service, boiler, and plant technician positions. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the demand for these positions will grow by 13% between 2022 and 2032.

Both programs are less than one year long. For more information on UTI’s programs and locations, visit https://www.uti.edu/.
