The Demand for Technicians:

The U.S. Department of Labor reports there will be approximately 1,288,700 jobs in the collision, automotive, motorcycle, and marine industries in the United States by the year 2018.*

Because the total number of vehicles in the United States continues to increase each year, there is a growing need for skilled technicians. Vehicles are lasting longer as well. It’s clear that more vehicles in operation for more time make for more maintenance and repairs.

Advanced, computer‐based technologies are at the heart of modern industry. Diagnostics and repair is increasingly the realm of highly‐skilled technicians.

As a result of these factors, there will be an average of approximately 31,200 new job openings annually for new entrants from 2008 to 2018 in the fields we serve, according to data collected by the U.S. Department of Labor.

This need for technicians is due to a variety of factors, including technological advancement in the industries our graduates enter, a continued increase in the number of automobiles, trucks, motorcycles and boats in service, as well as an aging and retiring workforce that generally requires training to keep up with technological advancements and maintain its technical competency.

Technicians of today are highly skilled, highly trained specialists. Because most cars today contain as many as 50 microprocessors, technicians are required to be extremely proficient in computer diagnostic technology. Formal technician training, such as the training our students receive at any of our 11 campuses, is the best preparation for these challenging technology-based jobs.
